On Friday, PC WORLD reported that popular video sharing website, YouTube.com, is beefing up its big browser screen to cater to a “new generation of 16:9 content.”

16:9… those figures might not mean much, but let’s switch around the numbers to make something we can wrap our heads around. How about… 960—the number of pixels YouTube will be displaying its videos in from now on. Did I mention the videos are in HD?

PC WORLD commented on the enhancement as “a much-needed improvement” for the video sharing website, which previously hosted a 4:3 aspect ratio for its videos. Apparently, standard videos are running well enough in the new YouTube player—but in typical widescreen fashion, there are “black bars on the sides” of the screen.

While general feedback has been “mostly positive,” some users are expressing discontent to YouTube through feedback on the website— either complaining about the black boxes or requesting the option to choose between viewing videos in 16:9 and 4:3

YouTube posted on the feature in its official company blog on November 24th, and you can read why YouTube.com thinks that “Bigger Isn& 39;t Always Better... But in This Case, We Believe It Is.”
