How to deal with proper Meta Tags when dealing with pagination?
This is a big dilemma we face on a constant basis, when you are dealing with several pages of the same data set how are you going to give it up correctly to the search engines.
To be honest we are still working on perfecting the correct solution for Meta data and paging.
As of now this is the rule of thumb we follow:
- Page Number 1 does not exist, when paging never change the title, description of keywords when you are on Page Number 1
- When you start to page, change the page title to "Page Title Page #"
- If you are an experience programmer, convert the page number to words, for example, "Page Title Page Two" might be a little better then "Page Title Page 2"
- Try to template out the page description to include the page [page number in words] in the first sentence.
- If you still utilize keywords in the meta data, Page [page number in words] should be the first keyword, followed by Page [numeric], etc.
We are still perfecting the solution but these are some ideas we have. If you have any ideas please let us know.
