This weekend marks the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center September 11 attacks. Across the world people are voicing and commemorating the lives that were lost, heroes that were made and how one day changed the world.

In the ten years since the attacks the world has changed so much, social media has become a new part of everyday life. And Americans especially are turning to these platforms to remember the day that shook us as a nation.
It was 2001 and I was attending Brooklyn Tech High School at the time; I was running late for class when a bum in the street told me a plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers. Quickly disregarding what I had just heard as nonsense, I continued racing to school. It didn't become a reality until my principal made an announcement on our PA system that something terrible had just happened.
Everyone has their story, just like mine. My school had eight floors and what I remember most was how the staff blocked off all the windows on the top floors because if you looked outside, it was as though we had front row seats to all the horror.
So for the next few days we all look back at our stories and the stories of others to pay homage to 9/11.
Call to Remember
The 9/11 Memorial has teamed up with Broadcastr to create a new social media app. The location-based platform allows members to geotag and record their stories. Smartphone users can download the free app and stream the stories as they move from location to location.
Call to Remember features your stories and offers a more meaningful form of remembrance and sharing.
9/11 Memorial App

The official 9/11 Memorial App is available for free on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The app was created by the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. It has three features: Tour, Explore, and Timeline.
Honor. Remember. Unite.
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum also teamed up with Facebook to create an app that allows members to share a message on their wall. Facebook users have the option to dedicate their status to the 3,000 lives that were lost or to someone specific. They also have the option of changing their profile picture to show that they remember.

Trending Tweets
Throughout the week and as the anniversary date comes closer Twitter trends have also been shifting. Some 9/11 inspired trending topics have been:
- Ground Zero
- World Trade Center
- #TheBiggestLessonLearnedFrom911
Twitter also announced yesterday that their social media platform is now 100M strong. It will be interesting to see how the world will react after the memorial service on Sunday.
A day that we will never forget, I want to dedicate this post to victims, to those that lost family and loved ones and to the men and women who risk their lives to protect and serve our country everday.
