On Saturday Google turned its lights out. If you went to Google.com homepage on Saturday, you would have noticed that their website was black. At first when I went there I thought there was an error on their server. Something inside me got all excited that Google generated an error until I saw the small print under the search box - "We& 39;ve turned our lights out, now it& 39;s your turn - Earth Hour."
Google did this as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. Of course they will not permanently do this because as we all know - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. However, Google states you can do something to reduce the energy consumption of your home PC by joining the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.
For more information, check out the Google Earth Hour page on Google.com.
