Facebook is meant to be a "book" after all. Push Pop Press announced on their homepage that they will be joining with Facebook to integrate their publishing technology into the social networking site. With 750 million members strong, should Facebook users be prepared for a more interactive experience?
"Although Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories. With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it's going to be a great home for Push Pop Press," said the statement from co-founders, Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris.
Push Pop Press is an IOS application that has gained recent publicity after teaming up with Al Gore to launch the iPad version of Al Gore's book, Our Choice.
Prior to starting Push Pop Press, both Matas and Tsinteris were engineers with Apple. Last year they left Apple to venture in e-books and publishing literature that engages all aspects of the imagination, from the auditory experience to the visual.
Both engineers are renowned in the design world and it would not be surprising that Facebook's acquisition is more for development than venturing into new e-book services.
This is a move from Facebook that has actually reignited my interest in their future as a part of my digital and social life. It's been a while Facebook, hopefully this partnership goes in the right direction.
